The Client
I'm Aram Coen, I'm a Video Editor and Director here at Electronic Arts. I mainly work on the FIFA Soccer game.![]()
EA is one of the biggest gaming companies in the world. There's around 10,000 employees worldwide.
Here in Vancouver we focus on the EA Sports label. We do different games like NHL, NBA Live, and the FIFA Soccer game - the FIFA Soccer game being a little bit of its own beast because of its global reach and its size.
My role as a Video Editor and Director here is to make sure the marketing team gets the videos that they need to get the message out there.
The Problem
For FIFA '09 we tried to make some videos that would be really high quality and would go more in-depth than what we did before. We also wanted to widen our reach even further, and cover all of the different countries that are important markets to us.
It was a little bit above the scope of what we could do internally, so we needed to look outside and see who could help us with these videos.
The Solution
We were very happy to find Basetwo Media. They've helped us out on two videos so far.
On the first project, "The Making Of", we needed several videos done. We needed to be able to show them on TV, on the internet - Youtube for example - also on the different gaming platforms, whether it be XBox 360 or the Playstation 3 Network. So we needed to produce these videos in very high quality so we could cover all of these different distribution outlets.
We needed to shoot all over the campus, indoors, outdoors, on the soccer field, in the motion-capture studio, within the halls of EA - all very different types of locations, requiring all different types of lighting and with different challenges for sound.![]()
Basetwo Media always came up with great solutions and always met the challenges.
On the second video we needed something very different. We needed somebody that was able to shoot in the US, Mexico, France, Italy, and Spain.
The big challenge was to shoot in all these different languages, trying to capture something that is culturally relevant to these specific areas.
One of the crazy things about this video was that we needed to have this done within 10 days. We had nothing organized, we needed somebody that would be able to handle it all - produce it, shoot it, and do the interviews.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to come along, so I needed to be able to trust that company to get all of the footage that we need, knowing that they will not get a second chance.
These videos will be seen all over the world. They will be translated into many different languages - I don't know exactly at the moment, I think we're at 18 languages - so these need to be very sophisticated videos where you're still able to get the message through.
Why Basetwo Media?
We were looking at other companies that would be able to handle of all these demands, shooting all over the world, and also being very flexible. They made it possible for every video of ours to be a great success.
